June 10, 2020

The Dalai Lama is commemorating his 85th birthday with a new musical endeavor that is the epitome of inner peace. During a time when many are looking for ways to ground themselves or find something that brings a sense of calm, the Dalai Lama’s first album, Inner World, is an LP of his teachings and paired with musical accompaniment.

Inner World’s drops on July 6, the same day that the Dalai Lama will celebrate his 85th year of life. Famed sitar player, Anoushka Shankar is featured on the new album as the Dalai Lama graces us with his mantras.

As of now you can listen to the first track on Inner Worlds, called “Compassion.” The Dalai Lama chants a famous Buddhist prayer for compassion. The prayer is chanted along side the sounds of classical piano, a rainstick, a pan flute and electric guitar.

Proceeds from the Dalai Lama’s new album will go towards the Mind & Life Institute, which is a non-profit organization that works to, “bring science and contemplative wisdom together to better understand the mind and create positive change in the world.” Additionally proceeds will also go to an educational program, Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning based and created at Emory University in partnership with the Dalai Lama.
